Another 8 ball rule bug...

Hi
Poolstars 8 Ball Rules say:

# The Break
5. If the 8-ball is pocketed on the break, breaker may ask for a re-rack or have the 8-ball spotted and continue shooting.

The rules don't take into account the situation when the breaker scratches AND sinks the 8. The World standardised 8 ball rules (http://www.bca-pool.com/play/tournaments/rules/rls_8bl.shtml = delete this link if necessary) say:

4.8 8-BALL POCKETED ON THE BREAK
If the 8-ball is pocketed on the break, breaker may ask for a re-rack or have the 8-ball spotted and continue shooting. If the breaker scratches while pocketing the 8-ball on the break, the incoming player has the option of a re-rack or having the 8-ball spotted and begin shooting with ball in hand behind the head string.

This is correct, but the game allows the incoming player to play ball in hand from anywhere on the table, when they should be restricted to playing from behind the headstring as with a normal foul break.

Hope that helps
Cheers

Did actually do this? I have tried to do this but have yet to succeed in potting the 8 once. :-(

Yes I agree you should get option of rerack or spot. What will happen is ball will spot and then you see option of 8-ball.

The ball in kitchen on foul break has been fixed, maybe im missing a situation where it doesnt work right?

Do I sink the 8 on the break? yes, quite often without many scratches... fortunately for everyone else and unfortunately for me, Poolstars has chosen the rerack option and not an instant win for this occurrence Wink
good to hear it's going to be fixed, keep up the good work Laugh

instant win is from some valley rules, and we are following the international rules, the one you mentioned in your first post Smile

WPA 8-Ball Rules
3.4 Open Table / Choosing Groups
Before groups are determined, the table is said to be “open,” and before each shot, the shooter must call his intended ball. If the shooter legally pockets his called ball, the corresponding group becomes his, and his opponent is assigned the other group. If he fails to legally pocket his called ball, the table remains open and play passes to the other player. When the table is “open”, any object ball may be struck first except the eight ball.

just it was evaluated as a foul: (

I believe this was my own mistake, hehe: I have placed the ball in the head field after the Brake foul of my opponent, from there the foul not to answer so please.
