Patrick Smolenaers of Holland, better known as Poelspeuler on PoolStars got the chance of a lifetime after winning his entry (a $12,500 package) in the main event of the World Series of Poker through an online pool tournament held on PoolStars. Better yet, he got to meet renowned snooker champion Steve Davis in the process on Friday.

Steve Davis who is returning to the World Series of Poker for the third year in a row is no stranger to poker. He is sponsored exclusively by Ladbrokes for poker tournaments, and cashed in the main event in his first try. Ladbrokes was kind enough to allow us access to their VIP hospitality suite at the Rio so Patrick and Steve could have a game on their pool table.

They played a friendly race to two 9-ball match and discussed the upcoming tourney. Steve won in the decisive 3rd game, but gave Patrick a chance in the 2nd game. Steve flubbed 9-ball that left Patrick with only a tough double. Patrick rose to challenge and potted the deciding frame ball under great pressure. Patrick was trying to relive the excitement of fluking a win versus Nick van den Berg in the third round of the final online qualifier that ultimately lead to his trip to the WSOP. Unfortunately for him, Steve did not give him another chance to relive that glory and ran out in the 3rd game after a dry break from Patrick.

Steve Davis played his first day in the poker tournament Saturday and has a very respectable 53,000 in chips which leaves him in above average position going into day-2 which will have only 1/2 the number of what the first day saw. The tournament, which is split into four day-1's to accommodate over 6,000 players, will see Patrick play today.

Check back for an update on how he did and videos from the WSOP.
